Mercy Medical Center Unveils new Radiation Technology

MERCY MEDICAL CENTER IN OSHKOSH HELD A CEREMONY TUESDAY AFTERNOON TO UNVEIL THE HOSPITAL'S NEW TRUBEAM LINEAR ACCELERATOR.
Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh held a ceremony Tuesday afternoon to unveil the hospital's new Trubeam Linear Accelerator.

Located at the Michael D Wachtel Cancer Center, the machine is one of just a handful of it's kind in the region. Officials say it will allow fox valley residents to receive high quality radiation without having to drive to Green bay or Milwaukee. Doctors say the machine provides radiation treatments that are more accurate than ever before.

"It uses a much more concentrated beam that is very carefully shaped," says Radiation Oncologist Rick Davis. "It just treats the tumor and stays off of the surrounding tissues that we don't want to receive a high dose of radiation."

The new equipment has been in service since May, and has already performed hundreds of successful radiation treatments.
