It's been another disappointing session for ag interest this year. Besides the lack of a new farm bill the funding for the locks and dams system on the Mississippi River seems to be in limbo, despite both the Senate and the House passing their own version of the bill
It looks like another case of wait until next year when it comes to getting financial approval for the locks and dams systems. Both the house and the senate did approve separate bills approving the financing of upgrading a system that in some cases is 60-70 years old. With some 60% of our nations corn and over 50% of our soybeans marketed through the river, a break down of the system would have a very negative impact on ag transportation and hence the ag economy
