They're using a former convent - slated for demolition - to polish their skills. From dragging hoses into a large building - to rescuing people from 2nd story windows - the training gives them an incredible advantage - when a real fire call goes out.
"It's very beneficial to have our crews have this as real to fire training as we can get," said Battalion Chief Ryan Lee, "Usually we're required to use fake smoke, here we can have a live fire and a little bit of stress added to the situation."
The building will be demolished starting on Monday. It's the site of the proposed convention facility in downtown Appleton.
