Appleton Police conduct citywide SWAT training

Appleton Police conducted a citywide SWAT training execise on Thursday.
Appleton, Wis.(WFRV)- The Appleton Police Department's SWAT team braved the cold Thursday afternoon for a day of citywide training.

The 25-member team competed against each other in groups of five. They covered over five miles of ground, completing various training scenarios along the way. In addition to endurance training, officials say the day was useful for a handful of reasons.

"Like any other area of public safety, it's a readiness that we're always testing and always making sure we're ready for the next call. Whatever the case may be." says Captain Todd Freeman.

Teams compete training on a monthly basis, but this excersise was one of the few times when they've done it in front of the public's eye.
