GREEN BAY (WFRV) - A new trail officially opened on the West side of Green Bay in honor of a fallen soldier. One cool thing about the trail, it use to be a place where the soldier hung out with friends.
At the corner of Fisk Street and Dousman Avenue in Green Bay stands a dedication for Marine Sgt. Benjamin Edinger. The 1999 graduate of West High School was honored with a trail and song by West High.
After a year at UW-Oshkosh, Ben joined the Marines. During his time in the service he spent two tours in Iraq, but in 2004 ben wounded. The military rushed him to Maryland and he was expected to live.
Veteran groups raised money for the sign and the city took care of the trail through grants. Its a place Ben and his friends used when there were railroad tracks along it.
Having this more than a mile trail named in his honor has Ben's mom very proud of him. The city of Green Bay hopes to one day extend the trail into Howard.
