GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach gave his annual "State of the County Address" Wednesday night in Green Bay. According to Streckenbach, strong financial footings are in place and the future looks bright.

Streckenbach gave his address inside the Brown County Courthouse. Telling those in attendance the county has no structural deficit, $13 million less in debt and numerous initiatives planned to generate income and cut wasteful spending.

The county executive talked about some of his plans to keep the county's fiscal house in order. Streckenbach says savings can be found by reducing the county's overall footprint of government by consolidating locations. Currently the county has over 2 million square feet of building space.

Streckenbach says revenue will soon be generate with the grand opening this spring of the "Adventure Park" at the NEW Zoo with its zip lines.

He also wants to do even more with county land at Austin Straubel Airport, with an expectation to create a new "Aeronautics Business Park."

"It's a gateway to our community," said Streckenbach. "We have 2,500 acres of land that needs to be developed and we recognize that in an industry with airlines that we have to do something different to build an airport that lasts for generations to come."

Streckenbach hopes to lure aircraft suppliers and component  manufacturers to the proposed park, as well as developing Aircraft and Avionics training programs.

Streckenbach is also proposing the development of a "Resource Recovery Park" to deal with consumer waste.  The facility would generate income by recovering items that still have value, in turn reducing the amount of trash placed in landfills.
