Bus service discussion

More than 1,000 people have signed a petition in Omro, trying to save a local business.
OMRO, Wis. (WFRV) - More than 1,000 people have signed a petition in Omro, trying to save a local business.

Last month, the school board voted 4-3 to switch school busing services to Kaukauna-based Kobussen Buses over long time Omro business Garvens Brothers.

Tonight, at a special school board meeting, residents will turn in the petition in hopes of getting the board to cast a new vote. While the Kobussen bid would save the district money, Garvens has retooled its bid to make it more competitive.

Garvens has provided buses for the Omro district for 28 years. They are the only client, meaning without this contract, the business will likely close. They employ about 30 people.

Kobussen declined to comment.

The meeting starts tonight at 5:30 PM at Omro High School.
