Heroin Overdose victims saved in FDL with Narcan

Fire officials in Fond du Lac say more people should be trained to administer the drug Narcan.
FOND DU LAC, Wisc. (WFRV) -- Next week, the Wisconsin State Senate will decide on a bill that would allow more people to administer Narcan for opiate overdoses.

The Fond du Lac Fire Department already administers the drug. In a news conference today, FDL officials say they administered Narcan a record 79 times in 2013. The drug reverses the effects of a heroin overdose long enough to allow rescue crews to get victims to the emergency rooms. That time is sometimes all that's needed to save a life. The Fond du Lac Fire Department says using the drug allowed them to save 13 lives last year.
