Kewaunee requiring residents to run water

A local community is taking measures to keep pipes from freezing.
KEWAUNEE, Wis. (WFRV) - A local community is taking measures to keep pipes from freezing. Effective immediately, The Kewaunee Water Utility is requiring customers connected to the municipal water supply to run a stream of water in at least one faucet at their home or business. In a letter from the city, they explain the step is necessary to prevent pipes from freezing as cold weather drives the frost deeper into the ground than normal. They instruct customers to run a "pencil lead size stream" from a faucet. As for the cost, the city says adjustments will be made to utility bills to make up for the additional water consumption. The letter goes on to say that customers who do not comply will be responsible for any costs incurred. People with questions can call 920-255-2300.
