Officials investigate fatal house fire in Waupaca County

A major highway was closed in Waupaca County as crews battled a deadly house fire.
 WAUPACA COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) - A major highway was closed in Waupaca County as crews battled a deadly house fire.

It happened on Highway 96, just east of Fremont.

According to the Waupaca County Sheriff's Department, 82-year-old Wayne Tesch as a result of smoke inhalation.

 A dog also died as a result of the fire.  

The victim's wife made it out of the home and was transported to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

The Sheriff's Department says  that Highway 96 was at Bellin Road as crews battled the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but officials say it's believed to be accidental and not suspicious.

The Red Cross is also assisting the family.
