OVERNIGHT: Officer Attacked During Traffic Stop

A Green Bay Police Officer was taken away by ambulance after being attacked by a pit bull.
GREEN BAY, Wisc. (WFRV) A Green Bay Police Officer was taken away by ambulance after being attacked by a pit bull.

It happened right outside the KI Convention Center in Green Bay around 3am Friday.

The officer pulled over a female driver for drunk driving. Once the driver was arrested, police ordered the male passenger in the car to leave the scene. He refused. As police approached to arrest him for disorderly conduct, he let go of a pit bull he was holding. The pit bull attacked the officer, breaking the skin. 

The officer was taken from the scene by ambulance. 

A K9 unit was brought in to check out the car. Drug paraphernalia was uncovered, along with some alcohol. 

The pit bull was taken away by animal control and is now being quarantined. 

UPDATE 5:35AM...

The officer has been released from the hospital. He sustained minor injuries.
