Serious crash on Highway 44 leaves one dead

Drivers in Winnebago County are being asked to detour a serious crash in the Town of Utica.
TOWN OF UTICA, Wis. (WFRV)- The Winnebago County Sheriff's department says a serious crash in the Town of Utica has claimed the life of one person. 

Deputies say it happened Wednesday afternoon on highway 44, south of Omro.

They say a car was heading south on 44 when it collided head-on with another car that was travelling north. 

Deputies say a passenger in the northbound vehicle was killed, both drivers were taken to a nearby hospital. It took nearly 3 hours for crews to clear up the highway. 

Deputies say they're investigating the cause.

Highway 44 is currently closed in both directions at Bonnie View Rd. Southbound traffic should take County Rd. FF to County Rd. N, and then head back to 44. Northbound traffic should get off of 44 at County Rd. N, and take that to County Rd. FF, and then head back to 44.
