Walmart Decision

Walmart Decision

After months of debate, a decision on a downtown Walmart may soon be near.
GREEN BAY, Wisc. (WFRV) After months of debate, a decision on a downtown Walmart could finally be coming to a head.

The decision was expected at last month's Green Bay City Council meeting. But the vote was delayed after Alderman Tom Sladek suffered a stroke and was unable to attend.

A motion was made to wait for Alderman Sladek to return. That motion ended in a tie. Mayor Schmitt broke the tie and decided to hold the vote until tonight.

Alderman Sladek is expected to be at tonight's City Council meeting, which starts at 7pm. He told Local 5's Wendy Fleury that he is in favor of the Walmart development.

"After 7 years of marketing that property, we finally have someone interested and something on paper."

He says he will vote to go ahead with the development as he feels it's the best answer to the alternatives available.

"If not Walmart, then what?"

He stated the recently introduced alternatives by the Mayor are nothing more than a wish list with no development or finance plans.

Local 5 will have complete coverage of the meeting on Local 5 News at 10pm.
