Extreme Cold Creates Problems for Firefighters

Appleton firefighters had to deal with frozen equipment while battling a fire last night.
APPLETON, Wisc. (WFRV) Appleton firefighters had to deal with frozen equipment while battling a fire last night.

The fire started up while workers were dismantling a machine at Appvion, a paper converting plant.

While trying to put out the fire, one of the pumps on the truck froze within 10 minutes.

Ice and slush build up in the hoses also became an issue. The fire department says even their 5 inch water supply hose started freezing up. The challenge was trying to drain them and put them away after the fire was out.

Crews were on scene for about 2 hours. No one was injured.
