The incident happened around 1:15 a.m. Saturday morning on Wisconsin Avenue and Ballard Road. A resident who was passing by reported a man lying in the roadway. Police identified the victim as 61 year-old Robert Joosten from Little Chute. Efforts were made to save the victim but he was pronounced dead at Appleton Medical Center a short time later. Wisconsin State Patrol assisted the Appleton Police in reconstructing the scene. Clues were able to be taken from the tire tracks left behind at the scene.
Captain Todd Freeman from the Appleton Police Department, says more evidence may come later.
"The road was wet and it's not uncommon that new evidence becomes more visible to folks once the road dries," says Freeman.
Police released a video of a vehicle of interest in the case. The vehicle is described as a dual wheel, red pickup truck with running lights above the windshield and on top of the rear wheels on the side of the truck.
Residents in the area say the streets can be dangerous, especially if you're riding a bike. Police are asking anyone with information to contact them.
Local 5 reached out to the family of the victim but they preferred not to comment.
