Helping Hand: 10-year-old girl brings hope to homeless families

Local 5 is starting a new series featuring those in the community who are reaching out to others.
Manitowoc, Wisc. (WFRV) - Local 5 is starting a new series featuring those in the community who are reaching out to others.

This week, we meet Lia Haile,  a fourth grader from Stangel Elementary who puts compassion above all else by lending a helping hand to children in need.

"Hopeful Hearts Club" started as a community service project, bringing pennies to the poor.

Now, the club includes nearly 300 kids, bringing smiles those who live without a home.

In just one year, Lia has touched the hearts of kids less fortunate at Hope House, a homeless shelter in Manitowoc through social events like fun days at the aquatic center, ice cream socials and even birthday parties.

If you know of someone like Lia, who lends a helping hand in our community, share their information with Local 5. Email Wendy Fleury at wendy.fleury@wearegreenbay.com.
