Local authorities aim to keep prescription drugs out of the wrong hands

Today was prescription drug drop-off day in Northeast Wisconsin.

Green Bay, Wis.(WFRV) - Prescription drugs can be a dangerous thing if they get in the wrong hands. To protect against that, Ashwaubenon and other law enforcement agencies are making a big push to collect the drugs or have people drop them into safe boxes.

Last April, more than 371 tons of prescription drugs were turned in across the country by citizens. Police say its important that they are not just left in the home for anyone to pick-up especially criminals who could rob you for the drugs.

There are more than 58,000 prescription drugs drop off sites around the country. Most of them are inside your local police or sheriff's departments.
