GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - The Medical College of Wisconsin-Green Bay may not be opening its doors to students until 2015, but as of today, the college has its first dean.

And his name is Matthew Hunsaker.

The announcement was made today at Green Bay City Hall, as Dr. Hunsaker was greeted by Green Bay and De Pere mayors. He is the director of the Rural Medical Education Program at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford.

Come January 1st, he will begin collaborating with academic and healthcare partners in the greater Green Bay area.

"That's our goal to attract the right students, provide them a world class education, and then to return them back home to regions that are undeserved, and also here in Green Bay for the future," Dr. Hunsaker says. "To develop that succession plan that means that the health systems that are strong now have a young applicant pool to recruit from, to continue to be strong in the future."

The medical college is partnering with St. Norbert College, UW-Green Bay, and Bellin College.
