Back in July, a skydive instructor and student were blown off course and landed in Lake Butte des Morts and immediately a search and rescue operation began.
The student was able to swim to shore but the master jump instructor died. The owner of Skydive Adventure told authorities he tried to radio the plane 10 times to abort the jump because of an approaching storm. However, the pilot told investigators he didn't hear anything on the radio until after the men jumped. The Sheriff's Department turned the case over to the Winnebago County District Attorney who says there was no evidence of criminal wrongdoing.
Because a plane was involved in the death, the FAA and federal government are also investigating the crash. They could still file charges.
