Oshkosh union approves new labor contract

Hundreds of UAW Local 578 members votes today on a 5 year extension
Oshkosh, Wis. (WFRV) - Hundreds of UAW Local 578 members voted on and approved a 5 year extension contract.

The labor contract extends the existing agreement to 2021. Oshkosh Corporation and the union bargaining committee reached a tentative agreement  for defense employees on Sept. 23.

Joe Preisler, president of UAW Local 578, said that the agreement is the best that they can get.

The extension proposal does not change the current collective bargaining agreement on wages and benefits.

The proposal includes a competitive health care plan and a commitment to perform the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) work in Oshkosh if the company wins the contract. Officials say this agreement could help Oshkosh Corp. win the 13 billion dollar military contract.

"It means that there is stability and structure for years to come here in Oshkosh," Preisler said when asked what it would mean to the union if the contract was approved.
