OWI Vote

A State Assembly Committee will vote on stiffer OWI penalties.

A State Assembly Committee is set to vote today on bills that would stiffen the penalties for those caught drunk driving.

The proposals would change third and fourth offenses from misdemeanors to felonies, make the first offense a misdemeanor if the driver's blood-alcohol content level is 0.15 or higher, and impose mandatory sentences on drunken drivers who injure, or kill someone.

The bills will come in front of the Assembly's Judiciary Committee.

If they are approved, the full assembly could vote on them later this year.
