Principal Fired: Investigation Underway

The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction is investigating the licensure of Melisa Ellingson, after she was fired as Principal of Nicolet Elementary.
GREEN BAY, Wisc. (WFRV) The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction is investigating the licensure of Melisa Ellingson, after she was fired as Principal of Nicolet Elementary.

Green Bay Area School District officials are being very tight lipped about what happened. Kristin Hartman and Jean Marsch, both from the district office, told Local 5 that it's a "personnel matter" therefore they were unable to comment on why Ellingson's employment was terminated on October 16th.

Ellingson has worked for the Green Bay Area Public School District since August 2011. She previously served as Principal of MacArthur Elementary, before becoming Principal of Nicolet Elementary this school year.

Local 5's Wendy Fleury contacted the Department of Public Instruction in Madison. A spokesperson there told her Ellingson's licensure status was placed under investigation on October 17th.

"By state law, during the investigation, the DPI shall keep confidential all information pertaining to the investigation except the fact that an investigation is being conducted and the date of a potential revocation hearing, should it be determined that a hearing is needed," DPI spokesperson, Patrick Gasper, said in a statement.

A letter went out to parents of Nicolet Elementary students, notifying them that an interim principal was brought in. Parents we spoke with this morning had no idea what happened.

District officials did not provide a copy of the letter at the time of our request.

Local 5 will stay on this story and will bring you the latest details as they become available.
