UPDATE: Local Principal Fired

Parents of Nicolet Elementary students weren't told their principal was terminated until after our Local Five Exclusive.
GREEN BAY, Wisc. (WFRV) Parents of Nicolet Elementary students weren't told their principal was terminated until after our Local Five Exclusive.

Local 5's Wendy Fleury broke the story during our morning show on October 30th, after learning Principal Melisa Ellingson was being investigated by the State after being fired from Nicolet Elementary in Green Bay.

Although Ellingson was terminated on October 16th, parents did not learn of that fact until a letter went out two weeks later, after our story aired.

Here is a timeline surrounding Ellingson's termination:
  • October 8th: Principal Melisa Ellingson is placed on leave
  • October 16th: Green Bay Area Public School District notifies Ellingson that her employment is terminated
  • October 17th: Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction places Ellingson's license under investigation
  • October 18th: A letter is sent to Nicolet Elementary School parents, notifying them of a new interim principal. At no point in the letter does it talk about Ellingson or her termination. You can read the original letter in the link above.
  • October 30th 5am-7am: Local 5 runs an exclusive story that Ellingson has been fired from Nicolet Elementary and the State is investigating
  • October 30th afternoon: A letter goes home to parents of Nicolet Elementary students, notifying them that Ellingson has been terminated. You can read the original letter in the link above.
As of today, November 4th, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction says Ellingson's license is still under investigation. They would not release any information pertaining to the investigation.
