U.S. Capitol on lockdown

The U.S. Capitol went into lockdown this afternoon after police say a suspect tried to ram a car into a White House gate.
WASHINGTON, D.C. (WFRV) - The U.S. Capitol went into lockdown this afternoon after police say a suspect tried to ram a car into a White House gate.

CBS News reports that it was a woman, who tried to drive through the gate.

Police then chased the female suspect approximately a mile, which is when Secret Service agents fired shots.

An investigation is underway to find out why the woman made an alleged attempt at driving through the gate.

The identity and condition of the suspect have not yet been released.

A police officer was injured in the chase.

Local 5 spoke with Wisconsin lawmakers who were on Capitol Hill when the shooting occured. All three politicians had nothing but praise for the Capitol Police.
