UWO Students Remember 911 Victims

Students put up 2,977 visual reminders of the price paid on that tragic day.
Oshkosh, Wis.(WFRV)- The event that brought Americans together 12 years ago, brought students from across the political aisle together Wednesday morning.

Students with University Wisconsin-Oshkosh's College Republicans and Democrats placed 2,977 flags on the lawn outside Dempsey Hall. Each flag represents a life lost in the September 11 attacks.

Organizers say the event shows strength, not only on campus- but throughout the nation.

"It's a good thing to have on campus." said Rebecca Olson, who serves as Chair of College Republicans, "I'm hoping people will just stop and will be like, wow. We need to remember, we can't forget what happened that day. Because once we forget, it will happen again. So we need to memorialize it so that future generation will remember."

14 College Republican Chapters across Wisconsin paid tribute to each of the fallen victims.

Out of respect for those victims, Governor Scott Walker has ordered that all flags be lowered to half-staff.
