Walmart submits new plans for downtown store

Walmart is looking to build a 150,000 square foot superstore at the location.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - Walmart has made another step towards building a store in downtown Green Bay.

Monday, the company filed a new plan with the city to redevelop the Larson Green Property, in downtown Green Bay's Broadway district.

Walmart is looking to build a 150,000 square foot superstore at the location. City leaders have asked for a smaller store.  The company says it has made changes to the original plans to meet city concerns and make it more pedestrian friendly, but will not reduce its size.

The project has met opposition from Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt, community members and some Broadway District business owners.

Monday, Walmart released a  statement saying "everyone agrees that there is a need for convenient, affordable groceries downtown and we believe Walmart can be part of the solution.  We look forward to engaging city leadership and the community in further discussion about the plan."
