Wisconsin BBB warns of IRS tax season scam warning

Tax season is fast-approaching and scammers are preying on vulnerable people trying to phish for personal information.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - Tax season is fast-approaching and scammers are preying on vulnerable people trying to phish for personal information.

Thieves are claiming to be from the IRS and are telling victims that they owe back taxes and must pay with a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer.

The scammer may use a common name and fake IRS badge number to try and trick their victim.

Today, on Local 5 News at 4:00 p.m., Susan Bach from the Wisconsin BBB, shared some tips on how to protect yourself and the warning signs of a scam.
