Boys Basketball Tournament Preview - Division 2

The FVA champion Kaukauna Galloping Ghosts lead the list of Division 2 contenders in the boys high school basketball tournament.

Once again, there's no shortage of talented teams from northeastern Wisconsin in Division 2 boys basketball. This year, leading the way are the champions of the FVA, the 20-2 Kaukauna Ghosts, who received the number one seed in the top half of the Fond du Lac sectional. Both of the Ghosts' losses were by one point: a 49-48 defeat at the hands of Kimberly on December 16th, and a 47-46 loss La Crosse Aquinas in January.

Seeded number 2 in the top half of the sectional are the Pulaski Red Raiders. Dave Shaw's squad, which finished 17-4 in the regular season, is led by junior Cody Wichmann, who has received scholarship offers from Green Bay and Milwaukee.

Pulaski could possibly meet Bay Conference champion and number 3 seed Seymour in the regional finals on Saturday, March 3rd. The Thunder was 14-2 in the Bay Conference this season, but 0-6 outside of it. The Thunder opens with a home game against #6 seed Ashwaubenon from the FRCC on Friday in the regional semifinals. The Jaguars finished 11-11 on the year, but defeated Pulaski on the Red Raiders' home floor, 46-41 on February 9th.

Bay Conference foes West De Pere and Luxemburg-Casco are seeded #5 and #4, respectively, and will meet in Luxemburg in Friday's regional semifinals. The 16-6 Spartans won both meetings with the 13-9 Phantoms in the regular season.

The bottom half of the Fond du Lac sectional features a pair of 17-5 squads in Beaver Dam and Eastern Wisconsin Conference champion Plymouth as the top two seeds.

The Marshfield sectional features 4 area teams, led by the 13-9 Shawano Hawks, who received a #4 seed in their half of the sectional.
