State Girls Basketball: De Pere Holds off Milwaukee King to win D-1 title

When a last-second shot went around and out, the De Pere Redbirds won the WIAA Division 1 state girls basketball championship on Saturday night at the Kohl Center.
MADISON (WFRV) - When a last-second shot went around and out, the De Pere Redbirds won the WIAA Division 1 state girls basketball championship on Saturday night at the Kohl Center.

The victory is De Pere's third state girls title, adding to the ones they captured in 1983 and 2005.

Emma Konopasek led De Pere with 21 points.   Milwaukee King rallied in the fourth quarter, pulling within three points, and in the final seconds, Shakeela Fowler raced downcourt and fired a three to tie, it rolled around the rim a few times before dropping out.

The Redbirds finished the season 24-4, after winning their last 20 games of the season.
