The Packers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 34-14 in the two teams preseason finale. NFL teams have to finalize their rosters by 5:00 pm on Saturday so tonight’s matchup was all about evaluating players, trying to find the best 53 to help Green Bay win during the regular season.
Neither Matt Flynn nor Scott Tolzien had emerged as the front runner to back up Aaron Rodgers and both had productive performances Thursday night. Flynn got the start and was 7/15 for 102 yards and 2 touchdowns. Flynn was 12/18 for 139 yards and two touchdowns. The question now is will the Packers keep two backups on the active roster – the last time the franchise did was back in 2008.
Rookie receiver Davante Adams scored 22-yard touchdown, recording 2 catches for 35 yards. Fellow rookie receiver Jeff Janis also scored a touchdown, a 33-yard strike from Scott Tolzien. It was Janis’ only catch, but he returned 3 punts and really showed his potential with a 62-yard kickoff return.
Corey Linsley has been the “starting center” for less than a week after J.C. Tretter suffered a significant knee injury last Friday against the Raiders and will miss multiple weeks. Linsley played two series and was productive, he and his teammates feel he is ready for the Packers season opener, less than a week away.
NFL rosters have to be finalized by 5:00 p.m. this Saturday.
