Injured players return as Packers begin another week of camp

After missing all of training camp up to this point, Packers cornerback Casey Hayward returned to action on Monday at Ray Nitschke Field.
After missing all of training camp up to this point, Packers cornerback Casey Hayward returned to action on Monday at Ray Nitschke Field.

Hayward, who had a breakout rookie campaign in 2012 with 6 interceptions, had missed time with a hamstring ailment, but returned on a limited basis for the non-padded workout.

With Hayward limited and Tramon Williams still out with a knee issue, Sam Shields and rookie Micah Hyde lined up with the first-teamers at cornerback.

Also on defense, Datone Jones returned to action after injuring his ankle in the preseason opener against the Arizona Cardinals.

Offensively, Don Barclay appears to be the starter at right tackle – for now.  He got all the #1 reps today.  Mike McCarthy did say that no jobs have been won or lost as of yet.

Andrew Quarless returned to action on Monday after missing time with a thigh problem.  Quarless is itching to get back, he hasn’t played in a game since suffering a severe leg injury against the Giants in December of 2011.

The kicking competition continued Monday, and it appears Mason Crosby is starting to edge ahead.  The incumbent hit 9 of his 10 attempts, while Giorgio Tavecchio converting 8 of 10.

The Packers will return to the practice field on Tuesday at 11:15 a.m. to continue preparations for Friday night’s preseason contest with the Seattle Seahawks, which you can see at 7:00 p.m. on Local 5.
