Bucks Select Jabari Parker with Number 2 Overall Pick in NBA Draft

The Milwaukee Bucks drafted Duke forward Jabari Parker with the number two overall pick in the NBA Draft Thursday
(WFRV-TV) - It took a 15-67 record for the Milwaukee Bucks to "earn" the number two overall pick in the NBA Draft.  Now they hope landing Duke forward Jabari Parker leads to more wins and makes other teams "fear the dear" once again.

Parker was a star from day one as a freshman at Duke averaging more than 19 points and 8.5 rebounds per game for the Blue Devils.  The 6'8" forward with a 7'0" wingspan is expected to help an offensively challenged Milwaukee team that finished 3rd to last in the league in scoring a year ago.

In his first official press conference as a Buck, Parker was saying all the right things.

"They're a young team," said Parker after walking off stage at the Barclays Center Thursday night.  "I feel like I can contribute right off the bat.  I feel like I'm going to be able to grow within that organization."

And while many wondered how the top prospects would like to play in Milwaukee, Parker didn't seem hesitant to play 90 miles up the road from where he grew up in Chicago.

"I'm trying to be a throwback player," Parker said.  "This might bite me in the butt years from now, but right now I just want to stick with whoever's rolling with me."

Bucks General Manager John Hammond was happy the 19-year old was available for his team to pick after Andrew Wiggins went #1 overall to Cleveland.

"Best way to sum it up," said Hammond. "Tonight, we got better."

Asked what Parker's ceiling is Hammond answered: "Whatever it is, he's going to achieve it.  I think it's pretty high."
