Bullfrogs fall to Duluth 4-2 Saturday

The Huskies scored two in the 8th to top Green Bay

Green Bay, Wis. – The Green Bay Bullfrogs played game four of their six-game home stand on Saturday night against the Duluth Huskies. After the Bullfrogs took an early 2-0 lead on the Huskies, Duluth came back to score three runs in the final three innings to win the game by a score of 4-2.

 

Duluth took the lead from Green Bay in the eighth inning, scoring two runs on two hits. Nolan Johnson (Minnesota State-Mankato) scored Vinny Rodriguez (Montevallo) on an RBI single before Austin Christensen (Nebraska) plated Alex Michaels (Cal Poly) on an RBI sacrifice fly to give the Huskies a 4-2 lead.

 

The Huskies bullpen then shut down the Bullfrogs for the final two innings to preserve the lead. Steve Villines (Kansas) threw just one-third of an inning but picked up the win for Duluth on Saturday. Jon Hander (Kansas) pitched the final four outs to pick up the save for the Huskies

 

Matt Sabel (UW-Oshkosh) took the loss for Green Bay.

 

Down 2-0, Duluth tied the game up at two by scoring runs in the fifth and seventh innings. In the fifth inning, Johnson scored on a Michael Tinsley (Kansas) single to give the Huskies their first run of the game.

 

In the seventh inning, Christensen led off the inning with a single before coming around to score on a Trent Chatterton (UCLA) RBI single that tied the game at two after seven innings of play.

 

Before Duluth owned a 4-2 lead, the Bullfrogs jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after the first three innings. In the first inning, Green Bay scored their first run of the game on a Ryan Koziol (Gulf Coast State) single that scored Matt Beaty (Belmont) who reached base on an error.

 

In the third inning, the Bullfrogs tacked on another run to give themselves an early two run lead. Beaty started the inning with a double and came around to score on an error by the Huskies that came off the bat of Johnny Bekakis (Long Beach State).

 

Beaty scored both runs on the night for the Bullfrogs while Bekakis finished 2-for-4 and reached base four times on Saturday night for Green Bay.

 

Corey Fischer (Madison College) started on the mound for the Bullfrogs and earned a no decision. Fischer threw six and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out four.

 

Alex Winkelman (Southeast Missouri State) took the no decision for the Huskies, throwing six and two-thirds innings while giving up two runs on five hits.
