Packers Training Camp Report: 8-6-14

The Packers held their final open practice before the preseason debut Saturday at Tennessee
On Wednesday the Packers held their final open practice at Ray Nitschke Field before the preseason opener in Tennessee Saturday.

Injury Report:  Safety Morgan Burnett (oblique) was out again and called day-to-day by head coach Mike McCarthy.  McCarthy did not rule Burnett out for Saturday vs. the Titans, but Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Micah Hyde continued to take first team reps at safety.  Others out Wednesday included DT Letroy Guion (hamstring), DE Jerel Worthy (back), S Tanner Miller (ankle), RB Michael Hill (concussion), TE Colt Lyerla (knee), WR Jared Abbrederis (knee), OL Don Barclay (knee).  McCarthy confirmed that Barclay tore his ACL and will likely be lost for the season.

Practice:  Three one-handed catches stole the show at the 10th practice of training camp, two receptions and an interception.  Rookie WR Jeff Janis raised some eyebrows on his first day in full pads returning after a bout with the shingles.  Janis corralled a 16-yard touchdown from Scott Tolzien in the left corner of the end zone, beating CB Sam Shields for the score.  On the very next play, 2nd round pick Davante Adams pulled him a one-handed catch of his own in the back of the endzone beating CB Casey Hayward for an 11-yard score.  Safety Micah Hyde showed the hands of a WR skying for a one-handed INT in the end zone off 4th string QB Chase Rettig.  OLB Clay Matthews saw a would be Matt Flynn interception zip threw his hands at one point in practice.  In the locker room afterward, Matthews said his thumb is still not 100%, but wouldn't blame it for the missed turnover opportunity.  "It won't happen on game day," Matthews said.

What's next?  The Packers will be at Lambeau Field, but won't be formally practicing Thursday. They will hold a brief closed practice Friday before taking on the Tennessee Titans in Week 1 of the preseason Saturday night at 7 p.m.
