Warren Gerds/Critic at Large: Riverfront concerts returning in De Pere

'Knights on the Fox'

DE PERE, Wis. - St. Norbert College will present its popular “Knights on the Fox” outdoor concert series for the 15th summer starting next week.

Performances take place at the gazebo at the Ed and Sally Thompson Marina on the riverfront of the Fox River on campus. Admission is free.

The lineup of performers varies from year to year.

According to a press release: The Big Payback of Madison will kick off the series Tuesday, July 11. Dr. Ashok Rai, president and chief executive officer at Prevea Health, will serve as the evening’s emcee.

The Big Payback is an award winning jazz-rock band featuring the soulful vocals of Leah Isabel Tirado and a horn section. The band features ambitious original tunes and classic covers. The Big Payback was nominated as one of Madison’s favorite “Dance Bands” by Isthmus readers in 2016.

“Knights on the Fox” features live music in a casual atmosphere. Concertgoers can carry in their own picnic or purchase sandwiches, snacks and beverages at Phil’s, St. Norbert’s on-campus restaurant located in the Campus Center. Picnicking begins at 5 p.m., followed by the concerts from 6:30-8 p.m. Concerts will be canceled in the event of rain. Check the St. Norbert College website or call for updates on the status of the performance.

The docks of the marina will be open for those who wish to come by boat. Parking is available in the lots off of Third Street and College Avenue, with handicapped parking in the lot near Old St. Joseph Church. Lawn chairs and blankets are suggested. Follow the signs to find your way to the parking lots.
