Green Bay, Wisconsin (WFR) The average American gains five pounds during the holiday season. So come the new year many of us will be looking to take the extra weight off or just get into shape. And Aurora BayCare Medical Center can help get you started.

Three years ago Dianne Cavil decided it was time to get in shape.

"I had thyroid cancer and gained a lot of weight, a significant amount of weight," said Dianne Cavil.

Dianne tried to lose weight on her own, "You start and you think you're doing good and you get to a certain point and you stop losing weight and keep doing it and eating right and all those things and nothing is happening," said Dianne.

So as an employee of Aurora BayCare Medical Center, Dianne could join the hospital's Live Fit program for free. It begins with a fitness assessment.

"Getting a physical assessment allows us to set realistic goals and it allows us to monitor that progress as they go along. We like to see where they start and then follows up with them to show them that they are making progress, even if it's not physically being seen," explained Kaitlynn Sedabres, Exercise Specialist with Aurora BayCare Sports Medicine.

Dianne also gets a personal trainer.

"With a personal trainer they kind of keep you on track. I personal train with Linda and she does my body fat to convince me that even though I am not losing weight, I'm gaining muscle and muscle weighs more than fat," said Dianne.

The Sports Medicine Center is open to the public.

"The facility offers a variety of things. We have just the fitness center, we have a small pool that individuals can use with a water treadmill that is really convenient. we also have group fitness classes as well as personal training," said Sedabres

So if you're thinking about losing weight in the new year and are not sure how to go about it.

"Working with a personal trainer or having those resources available allows individuals to be sort of coached through their goals and achieving them. And I think you see better results that way," said Sedabres.

It worked for Dianne, "I lost 68 pounds," said Dianne.

The Sports Medicine Center is open to the public and very affordable. The membership is ten dollars a month.
