According to CBS News, one of the dead is the suspected gunman. More than a dozen people are hurt.
The shots rang out on the base this afternoon, and officials quickly put out a tweet asking all those on-site to "shelter in place." Emergency crews are on the scene.
A portion of a Wisconsin National Guard unit, the 32nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team is based at Fort Hood. The unit released a statement on it's Facebook page saying all 30 members are safe and accounted for.
Fort Hood was the site of another mass shooting four years ago, when army Major Nidal Hasan shot and killed 13 people including Keil native Sergeant Amy Krueger.
