OSHKOSH, Wis. (WFRV) - Less than 24 hours after workers at Oshkosh Corp. got news of mass layoffs the community has stepped forward to help people find jobs.

Because of an decrease in defense spending, Oshkosh Defense is laying off roughly 760 people this summer.

This morning the Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce received several phone calls from local companies hoping to hire the workers.

One of those businesses Muza Metal Products is actually a supplier for Oshkosh Corp.

They have 20 positions to fill right now and say the workers from Oshkosh Defense have a perfect skill set.

Area employment agencies are also expecting to see a big boost in applicants.

ABR specializes in matching people with jobs on a trial basis  in hopes of securing full-time employment.

They noticed a large increase in job seekers -when Oshkosh Corp. made cuts last year.

ABR helped roughly 100 people find new jobs.

Oshkosh Corp. plans to hold a job fair featuring local companies like Muza Metal Products who are hiring.
