BROWN COUTNY, Wis. (WFRV) - Construction season meets football season first on Friday night.

"It's a mess," commented Ken Behrendt, who drove in Thursday from the Milwaukee-area. "It wasn't terrible. There wasn't a lot of traffic, but I'm sure on game day they're going to have a heck of a time here."

Dean Shenkenberg and his family traveled from Texas for training camp.

"When I got to Highway 41, I saw the construction there," he said.

And the orange cones and barrels continue to Highway 172 and I43.

"It's going to be a busy Friday afternoon because we've got our normal commuter traffic, we've got our recreation traffic that heads up north and now we've got the game day," explained Scott Nelson, WisDOT traffic engineer.

The DOT estimates an extra 40,000 vehicles will be traveling on local roads on game day. Nelson expects one of the busiest spots to be the US 41-172 interchange. He urges drivers to find alternate routes to cut down on delays.

"If you're on the west side you can use Packerland," Nelson said. "In the east, you can use Ashland Avenue. If you want to go even further east you can use I43 and come all the way around to 41 and enter 41 southbound to get to Lombardi as well. So there are a lot of alternatives."

Dean Shenkenberg isn't going to the game. So he's hoping he can avoid some of the congestion by getting back on the road as early as possible.

"We plan on leaving around 9:00 a.m. so there should be a lot of traffic."

The DOT will also have sign boards up alerting drivers of alternate routes.
