EAA Plane Crash: Male Pilot Dies

OSHKOSH, Wisc. (WFRV) - EAA officials report the male pilot has died after his plane went down at EAA AirVenture.

The female passenger onboard at the time of the crash remains in serious condition.

Their names are still not being released.

Acccording to Dick Knapinski, spokesman for EAA, the custom built Breezy aircraft went down around 9am on the southeast quadrant of Wittman Regional Airport.

The airport was closed to air traffic for about an hour following the incident. Departing flights started taking off again around 10am. As of 11:25am, Knapinski said the east/west runway was back open for arriving and departing flights. The north/south runway would be opening soon, after the scene is completely secured.  

The NTSB, FAA and local authorities were on scene immediately to investigate.
