GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - For students at Denmark Elementary, gym class is a little different.

Sensei Blue is empowering kids through self defense. "They really learn something about themselves, more than a skill of moving or hitting, that they learn about themselves so they can do whatever it takes," Blue says.

The class builds confidence to help kids get out of bad situations. "It's one thing for your parents to tell you what to do," says Pat Chester, a Phy-Ed teacher. "It's another thing for you to practice."

While most kids in the class agree, being bullied can still be pretty tough. The class helps to teach them to be smart and strong.

"I don't feel afraid about bullies bullying me anymore because they usually just bully everybody they see," says 5th grader Bret Knutson. "And so now if they bully somebody I can help somebody, or if they're bullying me...I can defend myself."

Sensei Blue is also empowering kids at three other area schools.
