When it comes to running maybe the most important thing is your shoes. However with so many options out there, how do you know which ones to buy?
You don't always get to pick your shoe because the shoe picks you.
"Each person has a different foot type and a different stride," says Run Away Shoes president Ross McDowell.
Each type of shoe fits a certain type of runner or walker. So when you go into a running specialty store, like Run Away Shoes, they will watch how you walk and suggest the proper shoe for your needs.
"The midsole is the most important part of the shoe... The midsole is where you're getting the cushon and the support from. The idea is to make sure it is taylored to your foot type," says McDowell.
Buying a good pair of shoes can be pricey. McDowell says a good running shoe will cost you between $90 and $160 dollars. But he says it's worth it in the long run.
"It's a lot cheaper than going to your chiropractor or your doctor for those check-ups and stuff like that."
McDowell says your running shoe will last between 300 and 500 miles. If you're if running 25 to 30 miles a week you'll probably need a new pair of shoes every 4 to 6 months.
