GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) An important vote in front of the Green Bay City Council Tuesday night. As council members decide if a proposed Walmart fits within the city's Broadway District - or not.

With the vote just one day away, Walmart released a video showing a computerized rendering of its proposed store within the Broadway District. It is an animation that you can find on YouTube - that shows the much-debated building, surrounded by mature landscaping and lots of parking.

However, for that proposed store to happen, aldermen would have to vote against a Plan Commission recommendation up for decision, to change the current land-use designation of the Larson Green site - from "industrial" to "downtown." The downtown classification - does not support big-box store development.

"We appreciate the effort that they are making," said Mayor Jim Schmitt. "But be it a state of the art video, that didn't change my mind for land use. I still think its best suited for downtown."

"Our board does think this is a viable option," said Christopher Naumann of On Broadway Inc., which owns the Larson Green property. "Is it the best use? Arguable. However, a higher, better use - and something that needs to be given serious consideration. You shouldn't dismiss it - just because it's Walmart or just because it's a big box."

Walmart spokesperson, Delia Garcia released a statement saying, "We believe Walmart can be part of the vision for revitalizing downtown Green Bay and look forward to continuing to work with the city council to determine how we can be part of the solution by bringing jobs to the area."

Mayor Schmitt says while Walmart's current 154,000 square foot store isn't right for the Broadway District, he believes it would work well nine blocks down the road at a location on Velp Avenue.

Tuesday night's meeting is at Green Bay City Hall and starts at 7 p.m.
