GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) If you love to eat pizza, no doubt over the years you have eaten at Jake's Pizza.  Shut two years ago at its location on Main Street, it has been resurrected within the very busy Broadway District.

Along South Broadway Street, a grand opening is underway. As two sisters, bring back Jake's Pizza - long a Green Bay institution.

"The pizzas been around since the 70's and people miss it," said one man ordering a pizza at Jake's Tuesday night.

Cara Sanders and her sister Brook decided earlier this year to obtain the rights and the recipes from Ron Jacobson, also known as Jake. After the restaurant closed two years ago at its former location on Main Street.

"You got my good side?" Jacobson asked those taking pictures on opening night.

"We felt Green Bay was missing something and we both loved Jake's Pizza and were loyal customers, it's something to bring back - we knew people wanted it back," said co-owner Brook Sanders.

However, in the beginning Jake was not one of those believers - telling the two the brand had lost its luster.

"He's very humble and modest and didn't think people were interested in seeing Jake's come back," said Brook's sister and co-owner, Cara.

Still the sisters remained committed and kept pushing Jake to sell. After much gentle persuasion, he bought into their vision, even lending a helping hand to make pizzas on opening night.

"This is something we wanted to do," said Brook. "We've been in the business a long time, wanted a place of our own and it just seemed like a good thing to do."

Several soft openings brought out huge crowds, much to the delight of those promoting the Broadway District.

"I think you are going to see a little new and a little old mixed together, but at a new and vibrant location," said On Broadway Inc Executive Director, Christopher Naumann.

And Tuesday - the new Jake's is packed again.

"It's crazy off the charts - we're sold out of dough - a bunch of our ingredients are gone," said Cara.

As this distinctive pizza from Green Bay's past rises from retirement.

"Just seemed like a good spot for it since it's an up and coming area," said Brook.

Serving pizza lovers again - just from a different location.

"A pizza institution in a historic building, in an historic district?" said Cara. "How could you go wrong?"

The sisters sold out of pizza tonight. They add that Jake's Pizza was established 40 years ago this past summer.
