20-year-old charged in deadly OWI crash in De Pere

A 20-year-old is facing charges for a drunk driving crash that killed one person in November.

Zachary Potts is expected to be in a Brown County courtroom Wednesday.

Potts has been charged with first degree reckless homicide, homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle and homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle with a prohibited alcohol concentration.

The crash happened on November 9 in De Pere where Potts was allegedly driving about 60 mph faster than the 25 mph posted speed limit before hitting a tree.

Officials responded to the crash on Terry Lane and found Potts and his passenger, 20-year-old Bryan Kwarciany, inside the car. Neither were said to be wearing seatbelts.

Both were transported to the hospital, but Kwarciany died days later due to his injuries.

According to the criminal complaint, Potts' blood alcohol level was .175, which is more than twice the legal limit.
