Appleton Police Department picnic with the community

APPLETON (WFRV) - The Appleton Police Department teamed up with local groups to connect with the community.

Family First Ministries and Prince of Peace Church hosted an Appleton picnic with the police department.

The family picnic in the park gives community members the chance to get to know local police as people.

Kids also get to check out squad cars and a fire truck.

Captain Larry Potter with Appleton police says friendly games of basketball and kickball add to that community interaction.

"It's just a positive interaction, positive relationship," said Captain Larry Potter with the Appleton Police Department. "We've gotten good feedback on social media and at the police department directly about the event and what a good thing it is basically to see police in a different setting outside from them working every day."

The picnic in Appleton is an annual community event.

It started three years ago by talks between Chief Thomas and Pastor Dupree of Family First Ministries.
