Black Friday busy this year at Target, though less busy than years past

BELLEVUE, Wis. (WFRV) - Black Friday was in full force Friday morning at Target in Bellevue, with hundreds of shoppers navigating through the aisles to find the best deals on all kinds of merchandise, like toys, electronics, and clothing.

A few minutes prior to the store opening, over a hundred people were lined up outside, all of them bursting in when the doors opened at 6 a.m.  The first shopper in line, Brittany Frea, said being early makes all the difference.

"When you wait a few hours, you might not get the toys and stuff that you want for your kids, and the deals that you want, so that's why you gotta be here first,” she said.

"You miss out on the deals if you come in too late,” added shopper Diane VanLoo. “You've got to come in when the deals start if you want the good buys…Some of the items, they don't have a large quantity… so if you really want something in particular, you need to be there when it opens up ."

This year’s Black Friday seemed a little less busy than in years past. That’s possibly due to more consumers shopping online than ever before, and some stores beginning Black Friday sales a day earlier, on Thanksgiving.

"I think this year's a little bit slower,” said Andrea Bialcik, a team lead at Target. “I think overall we're still doing really great, but I think it's definitely a little bit slower this year."

"I think it's because of online shopping, and we're responding really well to that, and we're seeing a big lift in sales online,” added another Target team lead, Betsy Bauman.

”Oh this is way less busy,” said shopper Jami Westlund. “The lines have been great. Everybody's been super helpful. I think it's because they had staggered starts this year."

In addition to the plethora of deals available, some shoppers say a major reason they participate in Black Friday is simply for the fun of it.

"I like this a little bit more than just getting together for Christmas, because it's just such a fun and different event,” VanLoo admitted.

"It's just fun, it's a good time,” said Westlund.
