GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV)-- Gubernatorial candidate Mary Burke is rolling out her first campaign ad and she’s targeting why she think she's the stronger choice for Wisconsin because she cares about the middle class.
“The middle class is a good niche for just about any political candidate," said UWGB Political Professor David Helpap.”
The 30 second ad highlights her success as a Trek Executive and successes as Commerce Secretary.
“She has to tell Wisconsin citizens who she is, what she’s done, which is what she does in this ad," Helpap said.
Then come the political punches.
"Under Governor Walker unemployment went up, job creation down," said the political ad.
Republicans are running ads of their own calling Burke “Backwards” but you won’t see any details highlighting Walker’s record as governor.
Helpap said, “Wisconsin citizens I think have a pretty good handle on our current Governor. They know who he is and what he’s done.”
Republicans were also quick to criticize Burke’s ad.
"This deceptive ad is just another desperate attempt from Burke to spin her disastrous record that’s already failed Wisconsin. The truth is, during her tenure as Commerce Secretary she put in motion policies that left Wisconsin with a $3.6 billion budget deficit, 133,000 fewer jobs, and the loss of 27,000 businesses," said Joe Fadness, the executive director of the Republican Party of Wisconsin.
So do these ads really work?
