Clause for a Cause fun run raises money for the homeless

The two-mile walk/run is Saturday, December 16

(WFRV) GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Clause for a Cause fun run and walk is coming up on Saturday, December 16 at Lineville Intermediate School in the Howard-Suamico School District.

The two-mile run/walk is a great way to sport your favorite holiday clothes, enjoy some hot cocoa, and give back to those in need.  The run will benefit The Giving Tree, a community food pantry.

Bay Port High School's DECA program is putting on the charitable holiday run.  Project managers and DECA members Rachel Ceaglske, Carter Olson and Josh Neerdael stopped by Local 5 This Morning to talk about the first ever Clause for a Cause.

"At the end of the school year last year, we became interested in creating an event to help the less fortunate in our area. After meeting with the social worker at our school, we learned that the number of homeless families in the district had doubled since last year," Neerdael said. "Additionally, we discovered that one in seven people in Wisconsin is having trouble with food. We decided that hosting a run/walk would be an effective way to give back to the community and raise awareness for these local issues."

The holiday-themed event asks runners to wear their holiday attire, such as costumes and ugly sweaters. The fun run itself includes a two-mile run/walk and post-run activities, such as writing letters to Santa, decorating your own cookies, taking pictures with Santa, and making ornaments. There will also be snowman bowling and, of course, hot chocolate.

Proceeds from Clause for a Cause benefit the Howard-Suamico food pantry The Giving Tree.

"It is like a shopping center where people can pick out the food, clothes, and supplies they need. Our initiative is to bring awareness to the homelessness in Howard-Suamico. Since The Giving Tree benefits them, we thought that it would be a great organization to support to directly help the homeless population in our community," Ceaglske said.

Early registration is $15 for an individual and $45 for a family until Friday, December 1. After that, you can register up until the race for $20 a person or $50 for a family. To learn more and register CLICK HERE.
