Don't call police over turkeys, Appleton PD says

APPLETON, Wis. - The Appleton Police Department is asking residents not to call them about turkeys in the city.

"Please feel free to take a photo; however, you don't need to report their presence to us. We know they exist," the Appleton Police Department tweeted this week.

Police have been recently receiving phone calls about the birds.

While seeing turkeys may be uncommon to some, the department again took to social media Friday to tell people that they don't need to be notified when one appears in their neighborhood.

"There are many wild animals walking, hopping and flying around town. Unless they appear to be sick or are creating a hazard, please enjoy their presence. We don't need a phone call unless the animal requires care," they explained in a Facebook post.

So, if you see a rafter of turkeys in your neighborhood, snap a photo instead of calling police.
